To once again a little to look beyond the confines of the BPM out, I wanted to give an overview on management. If I have to sculpt models for process management and advice to stand I would also like to know the management (regardless of individual people) closer.
In the book "management" by Ulrich Sailer (Harvard Business School Publishing), I found a comprehensive and well-written compendium that I could gain insight into the various management theories.
In the book itself, no new tricks or tools will be demonstrated, but it is really a compendium of existing methods, some of which have been known for decades. These models are explained briefly analyzed and tested for practicality in today's complex business environment. From the beginning, the focus is on complex systems and sustainability, should strive for good management.
The first chapters are interesting for those who still have not much with successful managers and management theories set apart. It introduces many successful manager, described her "recipes for success" and critically examined. In the aftermath there are the beginnings of the theory, teaching and research, which would also be something about the "successful management" and can contribute.
The subsequent chapters look at today's business, the environment and discuss "unmanageable system." This is seen time and again the role of management and how can systemic thinking and the jump provide several scientific fields also add value to the sustainability impact. By examining the various aspects and the writing style of the author is to be self-critical reader and aims to examine these approaches, to learn more and read on. The author has deliberately not set to THE approach, since there is no universal solution. But by the insight that it is constant for and against himself in a position to put the knowledge gained at least in theory, his own familiar environment to transfer.
Following various methods and tools on planning, direction, control, organization design, human resources management are presented. Through the examples, practical links and references to many original sources, you realize the author of many years of practical experience.
Described by the fresh style of writing, as well as the many references and examples, summaries, what you will read on the following pages, and the reflections at the end of a section of the various topics of the book very well structured.
This book I can recommend to anyone who wishes to deal with the issue of management and many managers who are sitting for years on their "executive chairs" and sometimes forget what is the task in hand. But above all, young managers, who may face major challenges and are not manageable, here are the odd note.
